Scientific Cooperation of Galician and Transdniprian Researchers of the 19th century in Context Development of National Slavic Studies

Abstract

To analyze the content and features of scientific cooperation between researchers of Galicia and Transdniprian Ukraine in the 19^th century during the formation of national Slavic studies.The research was carried out on the basis of the principles of historicism and objectivity, interdisciplinary and pluralistic approaches based on historical sources and achievements of modern historiography. The following general scientific research methods are used: analysis, synthesis, induction and deduction, comparison and generalization; special-historical: historical-chronological, historical-comparative, systemic-structural, biographical.The article highlights the process of establishing scientific relations between Galician and Transdniprian researchers in the 19^th century in the context of the development of national Slavistics. The main periods of such cooperation are outlined. The content, key figures and nature of scientific contacts, forms and means of communication are clarified. It was established that scientific relations between researchers of both parts of Ukraine took place during personal and professional meetings and through correspondence.Throughout the 19^th century, Galician researchers (Ya. Holovatskyi, I. Vagylevych, M. Shashkevych, D. Zubrytskyi, B. Didytskyi, O. Barvinskyi, I. Sharanevych, etc.) established creative relations with the famous scientists of the Dnipro region at that time: O. Bodyanskyi, M. Maksymovych, I. Sreznevskyi, P. Kulish, V. Antonovych, and others. This process occurred gradually, two periods of such cooperation can be distinguished: 1830-1840s and 1860-1890s. It occurred most intensively in the 1880-1890s, which is associated with the emergence of scientific societies, strengthening nation-building processes, university centers and national-cultural revival in Ukraine at the end of the 19^th century. Relations with Transdniprian scientists deepened the interest of Galician researchers in national and Slavic studies. Establishing further cooperation was continued by M. Hrushevskyi and his students.
