Abstract
On the basis of archival documents and periodical publications of the 19th century, the process of the preparatory stage for the creation of the Church-Archaeological Museum and Society at the Kyiv Theological Academy, in 1870-1871, is most fully revealed.
A brief analysis of the historiography of the issue under study is given. The influence of the first archaeological congress in 1868 in Moscow on the idea of creating a church-archaeological museum and an archaeological commission at the Kyiv Theological Academy is traced. The article describes the situation in the issue of protection and conservation, monuments of Christian church history, as in the Russian Empire in general and Ukraine in particular.
The article was analyzed: a memo of professors of the Kyiv Theological Academy P. Lashkariev, A. Voronov and F. Ternovskiy on September 25, 1870 and a memo of Professor P. Lashkariev on November 19, 1871, to the Academic Council, on the need to create a church-archaeological museum and archaeological commission. The motives that they used in the development of plans for the creation of the museum and the commission are revealed. The decisive role of Professor P. Lashkariev in the creation of these documents has been determined. The chronological course of events is reconstructed.
